Pittman Raises Over $200K in 2019, Dems on Council Outraised

Despite not having thousands of dollars pouring in from large corporations and developers, County Executive Steuart Pittman raised a hefty $212,275 in his first year in office. His donations have largely been coming from private individuals.

Pittman is the first county executive elected from the Democratic Party since 2002. This is also the first year that Democrats have had a majority on the County Council since 2006. Here’s how much the members of the council raised in 2019:

  • District 1: Sarah Lacey (D) – $1,150
  • District 2: Allison Pickard (D) – $18,050
  • District 3: Nate Volke (R) – $96,058
  • District 4: Andrew Pruski (D) – $62,110
  • District 5: Amanda Fiedler (R) – $28,945
  • District 6: Lisa Rodvien (D) – $10
  • District 7: Jessica Haire (R) – $138,516

The big numbers that stand out are just how much Nate Volke and Jessica Haire raised in their first year on the job. Volke has become a vocal opponent of Pittman’s Forest Conservation Bill and efforts to raise taxes to support schools. Haire is rumored to be already considering running against Pittman in 2022. Both Volke’s and Haire’s contributions largely come from corporations and developers.

The other big surprise is the lack of fundraising by Sarah Lacey and Lisa Rodvien. Lacey represents the western part of the county, and Rodvien represents Annapolis. Both are very affluent areas, and it’s hard to imagine that they’re unable to raise funds. Asking people for money is hard but in Maryland’s most competitive county, every year needs to be a fundraising year.

  • District 31: Bryan Simonaire (R) – $23,500
  • District 32: Pam Beidle (D) – $52,470
  • District 33: Ed Reilly (R) – $49,114

Here are the amounts that Anne Arundel’s Delegates raised in 2019:

  • District 21: Joseline Peña-Melnyk (D) – $94,861
  • District 30A: Alice Cain (D) – $22,154
  • District 30A: Shaneka Henson (D) – $22,018
  • District 30B: Seth Howard (R) – $20,595
